MEDICAL OFFICE PROCEDURES
Throughout this course, you will gain an understanding of the duties and responsibilities in the administrative front office.  This includes the use of proper communication techniques, receptionist duties such as filing, appointment scheduling, financial administration, processing mail, care of facilities and medical equipment as well as the importance of maintaining patient confidentiality and privacy.  
Course Outcomes:
Upon completion of this course, students are expected to be able to:

  • Identify the laws and regulations that govern the healthcare profession
  • Understand the professional role and responsibility of the medical administrative assistant as a member of the health care team
  • Describe how to schedule and monitor appointments for the physician using multiple scheduling methods
  • Understand how to effectively manage a patient’s health information
  • Identify effective communication techniques, both in person, in writing and on the telephone
  • Recognize the importance of HIPAA as it relates to patient privacy and identify steps taken to ensure that these privacy laws are maintained
  • Describe how to effectively prepare for an interview
